Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Eleganote (“we”, “our”, or “the app”) handles information when you use our note-taking application on iOS, Android, macOS, Windows, and Linux.
Eleganote is designed so that your notes stay on your device by default. Optional cloud features (account sign-in and cloud backup) are described below.
1. Summary
- Notes, drawings, audio recordings, and attachments are stored locally on your device unless you choose to export or back them up.
- We do not sell your personal data.
- We do not use third-party advertising or analytics SDKs in the app.
- Google Drive and Dropbox connections are optional and controlled by you.
2. Information stored on your device
When you use Eleganote, the following data may be stored locally on your device:
- Notes, handwritten strokes, shapes, text boxes, tables, and images you create
- Audio recordings attached to notes (if you use the microphone)
- App settings and preferences (theme, language, toolbar layout, etc.)
- Document metadata (titles, folders, tags, favorites)
- OAuth tokens if you connect Google Drive or Dropbox for cloud backup
- Biometric lock settings (processed by your device’s operating system; we do not receive your fingerprint or face data)
This data remains on your device unless you export it, back it up, or sign in to optional cloud services.
3. Optional account sign-in (Firebase Authentication)
You may optionally create an account or sign in with Google or email through Firebase Authentication (Google Firebase). If you sign in, we may receive and store:
- Email address
- Display name (if provided)
- Profile photo URL (if you sign in with Google)
- Authentication identifiers required to maintain your session
Account data is used only to identify you inside the app (profile screen). Eleganote does not upload your note content to Firebase servers.
Firebase’s privacy practices: firebase.google.com/support/privacy
4. Google Drive (optional cloud backup)
If you choose to connect Google Drive, Eleganote requests the OAuth scope
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.file.
What this scope allows
- Create a folder named “Eleganote Backups” in your Google Drive (if it does not already exist)
- Upload backup files (
.zip) that you initiate or that are created by automatic backup settings you enable - List and delete backup files inside that folder that match the name pattern
eleganote_backup(for retention management)
What this scope does NOT allow
- Reading, browsing, or modifying your other Google Drive files, photos, or documents
- Accessing files the app did not create or open
OAuth access and refresh tokens, plus your Google account email (for display in settings), are stored locally on your device in the app’s settings storage.
5. Dropbox (optional cloud backup)
If you connect Dropbox, Eleganote can upload backup .zip files to a folder named “Eleganote Backups” in your Dropbox account. The app accesses only files it uploads to that folder. OAuth tokens and your Dropbox email (for display) are stored locally on your device.

6. Permissions
- Microphone — only when you record audio notes; recordings are stored locally unless you include them in a backup you upload.
- Storage / Files — to save notes, import/export files, and create local backups.
- Internet — for optional sign-in and optional cloud backup only.
- Biometric authentication — optional app/document lock; handled by your device OS.
7. What we do not collect
- We do not run in-app advertising.
- We do not use Firebase Analytics or similar tracking in the current version of the app.
- We do not upload your note content to our own servers.
8. Subscriptions and payments
Optional Eleganote Premium subscriptions may be purchased on our website through third-party payment providers. We do not receive or store your full payment card details. If you sign in with Firebase, subscription status may be linked to your account email for activation in the app. When in-app purchases are offered through Google Play or the Apple App Store, those purchases are processed by the respective store and governed by their policies.
9. How to delete your data
On your device
- Delete individual notes or documents inside the app.
- Uninstall the app to remove locally stored data from your device (subject to your OS behavior).
Disconnect Google Drive
- Open Eleganote → Backup / Cloud settings.
- Tap Disconnect or sign out of Google Drive. This removes stored OAuth tokens from your device.
- To remove Eleganote’s access entirely, visit Google Account → Third-party access and revoke Eleganote.
- Delete backup files manually from the Eleganote Backups folder in Google Drive if you no longer need them.
Disconnect Dropbox
- Disconnect Dropbox inside Eleganote (this also revokes the access token with Dropbox).
- Delete files in the Eleganote Backups folder in Dropbox if desired.
Delete your account
If you signed in with email or Google via Firebase, you may sign out from the Profile screen. To delete your Firebase authentication account permanently, contact us at the email below and we will assist you.
10. Data retention
- Local note data is kept until you delete it or uninstall the app.
- Cloud backup files remain in your Google Drive or Dropbox until you delete them or until automatic retention settings remove older backups you configured in the app.
- OAuth tokens on your device are removed when you disconnect the service.
11. Children’s privacy
Eleganote is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
12. International users
If you use cloud backup, your backup files are stored in your Google Drive or Dropbox account, which may be processed according to those providers’ policies and data regions.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the app after an update means you accept the revised policy.
